Devoted To Birds (Layla's Post)

Yep. That's what i am. Birds are so amazing and beautiful, even  the most plain colored of all. Color isn't all that counts. So, I love taking pictures of the birds I see and I have an awesome camera that aids me in this. However, I never seem to be able to get pictures of the rare ones! Take the red-tailed tropic bird for example. That bird is SUPER rare but of course out of the two times I've seen it I haven't had time to take a picture! That is no evidence! Well, I'm not posting this so I can mourn about what i haven't got a picture of but what I have so here goes:

Acorn Woodpecker:

They like eating suet and peanuts and prefer a place with plenty of trees. Common.

Goldfinch:

Their favorite treat is nyjer, sometimes called thistle though they will also eat other small seeds.

Western Scrub jay:

What can I say about jays except for that there extremely loud and go crazy for shelled peanuts?

Warbler:

Oh how I love these little things. They have so many unique and defining traits that I can't explain half of them!

crow in palm tree:

EVERYONE knows about crows. :)

seagulls:

And seagulls... they take your food and are annoying!!!!!!!!

this is an awesome pic!:

Yeah, yeah, we live by the ocean.

Turkey Vulture:

I have one word to explain this guy: UGLY!!!!!!!!!!!

band- tailed pigeon:

can't really see the banded tail, huh. He-He.

Phoebe:

Typical bird on the fence type of  photo.

I have a lot more pics but it would take centuries to post them all so I will stop with the photos and continue. I wrote a composition on a red-shouldered hawk I was watching the other day and here it is:
   1-31-13
10:08 A.M.
Thursday

The hawk: A composition

There he stood: a perfect example of grace and beauty, just standing there with his head arched and his eye ever moving.
There he stood: in an old, gnarled oak tree with it's branches spreading out every which way well the twig-like wood shot off from each branch intertwining itself with another.
There he stood: with his black and white tail feathers which on close examination prove to have one of the most intricate patterns ever created with close resemblance to a spider's web, his perfectly curved beak and sharp eyes that pierce you deep into the soul, not even mentioning the red and black feathers of ever-changing shades as they glisten in the sunlight and then of course his menacing talons which are ready at any moment to spring upon a helpless chicken or mouse and carry it away.
There he flew: with his strong wings spread wide and flapping up and down, silently, gliding away across sunlit skies.

Did you like it?
So, if you are a bird-watcher like me there is this awesome thing going on worldwide called the Great Backyard Bird count. Here is the link to the site. and if you are a bird photographer there is also a contest for that on the site which you should check out. :)
I know this has nothing to do with the subject but look at this awesome smiley angry face. :@ He-He.
I'm glad you stayed long enough to hear me ramble about birds. I hope you enjoyed! Please tell me if you did. oh yeah, and Josiah told me I could only do this post if I told you to check out his page Josiah Jolly Stuff and comment. Don't worry, you don't have to listen but he really would like if you commented even though he's crazy. :)
Bye!

A Random Post

This post is going to be a random, short post.

First we will put a poem that I, Layla wrote when I was six. Here it is:
 I know a little bird
That goes tweet tweet tweet
And that pretty little sound
Has a pretty little beat.

The beat is not fast
It is slow
Tweet Tweet Tweet
Is how the song goes

The bird has a red breast
And a red tail
And in my imagination
The tail is a sail.

I was going to put a poem I wrote a few months ago on here but it seems that I misplaced it so I can't. I will write a poem right now and put it on here though. Here it is:
 Buck in the snow
Breath is like thunder
Running swiftly
Shot by a bow
Down he goes

But up again
Limping away
Blood stains the snow
In pain he goes
In pain he goes

He has escaped
Though he's nearly dead
But while there's still life
There's hope in sorrow's stead
Hope in sorrow's stead

But the spring helped revive him
Giving him life again
And it taught him a lesson to
With pain it may have come, but happiness sprung
And he'd become better in many ways too

This is not as good as the one I was going to put but it's still good. More of a rhyme though.
I can't not put this poem that I wrote when I was seven no matter how ridiculous it is. Here it is:
  Ice cream is sweet
 Ice cream is cold

 I don't eat
 Ice cream with mold.

That's all. It's stupid but funny.

Weather over here has been very strange. We had a week where it was very hot and we mean very hot but this week has been very cool, almost like fall weather. We had chili and corn bread for dinner and it was delicious. Yes, that was an abrupt change of subject but we said this was going to be a random post.
We took a vacation to a beach house in June and here are some pictures from it.

Our cousins Keaton and Addison, Keaton is the baby
                                           the sunset.
Mud swallow coming out of it's nest.  Yes, that was a random post.

Things in nature

We have had lots of fun experiences outside and now we are going to write about some of them. First we'll write about the violet-green swallow.

Once we were catching tadpoles at a river with our dad and our dad went farther than usual to look for some perch.  However, instead of bringing back the fish he brought back a live bird.  It turned out that the bird had been laying on a rock in the sun and he just swooped it up with the net and brought it back. The bird was amazing. Sometimes it would lay down peacefully and other times it would flap its wings angrily, trying to get out.  We held it in our hands a few times and were able to observe it for almost the whole day.

Another animal we'd like to talk about are deer.  I, Josiah actually wasn't there when it happened but I, Layla was. We were taking a drive one day when we saw a bunch of deer.  There were two fawns who looked like they'd just been born yesterday, numerous does and three or four bucks. One of the fawns was a boy and one was a girl.  The bucks nearest to our car stared at us, the does continued to eat but were clearly ready to bolt up at any moment and the fawns continued playing and kissing like before. Sadly I did not have my camera so there are no pictures.

Last of all we are going to write about a tree instead of an animal.  It is a fruit tree that did not produce last year.  We went from thinking that it was an avocado tree, to a mango tree until we finally figured out that it was a loquat tree. Loquats are Japanese Plums and they are delicious! The chickens and duck love them too.

Though there are still plenty of things to talk about we'll save those for another time.
